09 Days and 08 nights to the discovery of Abidjan, Yamoussoukro, Bouake, Korhogo, MAN and the Tai National Park

This tour will lead us to the discovery of the cultural depths and the marvelous attractions of the Ivory Coast. In Yamoussoukro which is the political capital, we will visit Our Lady of Peace Basilica, the largest Christian religious building in the world, built between 1986 and 1989 on the model of St. Peter Basilica in Rome. It was inaugurated by Pope John Paul II in 1989; we will visit the FHB Foundation (Félix Houphouet-Boigny Foundation for peace research), created in 1973 and was at the origin of the international conference for peace, organized by UNESCO. The Crocodile Lake at the edge of the Presidential Palace shall be a must see attraction in this tour. Here, we find crocodiles that weigh up to one tone and measure almost 6 meters in length. We will then go to meet the Baoulé populations of the region and we will attend the performance of traditional dances with the use of masks as a central element. If time permits, we will meet the weavers of Bomizambo, it is a small village in the Yamoussoukro district where the art of weaving is passed down from generation to generation. This is where the traditional Baoulé waistcloths are made, which are among the most beautiful African fabrics.

The discovery of the Senufo country will lead us to a people who have managed to conserve their cultural heritage over time. We will visit the weavers of Waraniné, the blacksmiths and the painters on fabrics of Fakaha who inspired Pablo Picasso in the realization of some of his works. Traditional dances will also be there.

The city of Man is a magnificent city in a sublime setting, beautiful mountains often hidden by fog and its multiple waterfalls and magnificent rivers which surprise the visitor with their mystery. Also known as the “city of 18 mountains”, Man is mainly populated by the Dan people and rests in a green setting and waterfalls. We will visit the fabulous bridges of lianas whose achievements remain unexplained, the natural waterfalls which attract hundreds of visitors every weekend thanks to its natural swimming pool formed at the foot of the fall, the sacred monkeys, the 18 mountains of Man including Man’s tooth and Mount Tonkoui which rises to 1,189 meters and which is the highest peak in the mountains of Man and the second-highest peak in the country after Mount Nimba.

The wonders of Tai National Park await us for an unparalleled safari. Established in 1973, Tai National Park covers an area of 350,000 ha and takes its name from the town of TAI. Tai National Park has been registered since 1978 as a Biosphere Reserve and since 1981 classified as World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. With nearly 140 species of mammals including 12 endemic, 240 species of birds and many species of insects, 1,800 plant species including 138 endemic, this park is endowed with extraordinary flora and fauna. It is home to pygmy hippos, elephants, red colobus, forest buffalo, a wide variety of primates and many more.

The city tour of Abidjan will lead us to discover some attractions of the economic capital. We will visit the Museum of Civilizations, it is a State museum that was created in 1942 and which has a rich and varied museum collection estimated at 15,210 authentic pieces from all regions of the Ivory Coast. The museum’s collection is made up of various categories of objects. These are statues, masks, musical instruments, archaeological pieces, attributes of power, weights to weigh gold, everyday objects, adornments, photographs, slave shackles, doors sculptures, pottery, textiles etc. These objects retrace the history of the intermingling of Ivorian cultures and populations.

Day 1: Hexagon - Abidjan

Arrival and reception at Félix Houphouët-Boigny airport in Abidjan by our agents, transfer to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Abidjan – Yamoussoukro (236 km)

Day 3: Yamoussoukro – Bouake – Korhogo (350 km)

Departure for Korhogo after breakfast, visit along the way Baoulé crafts including the Kita loincloth and in Katiola the local pottery made by women. Lunch in Bouaké and continuation to Korhogo, arrival at the end of the afternoon, installation at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Visit of Korhogo and its surroundings

After breakfast, our day will be devoted to the discovery of the Senoufo country. A people who have managed to preserve their culture and traditions over time. Visit of the weavers of Waraniné, of the blacksmiths and of the painters on fabrics of Fakaha, these are magnificent paintings by the artisans of the region which greatly inspired Pablo Picasso during his trip to the region in the 1930s. Day 5 & 6: Discovery of Man and its surroundings

After breakfast, visit the city of MAN which is mainly populated by Dan people. We will devote 2 days to the visit of Man and its surroundings. The city of Man is a magnificent city in a sublime setting, beautiful mountains often hidden by fog and its multiple waterfalls and magnificent rivers which surprise the visitor with their mystery. Also known as the “city of 18 mountains”, Man rests in a green setting and waterfalls. We will visit the fabulous bridges of lianas whose achievements remain unexplained, the natural waterfalls which attract hundreds of visitors every weekend thanks to its natural swimming pool formed at the foot of the fall, the sacred monkeys,

 the 18 mountains of Man including Man’s tooth and Mount Tonkoui which rises to 1,189 meters and which is the highest peak in the mountains of Man and the second-highest peak in the country after Mount Nimba. Day 7 & 8: Tai National Park - Abidjan

Day 9: Abidjan – Hexagon

Breakfast and visit of the city of Abidjan, you will discover the plateau, which is the business center of Abidjan with its buildings, Adjamé a large popular district and its astonishing market. Visit of the Museum of Civilizations, it is a State museum that was created in 1942 and which has a rich and varied museum collection estimated at 15,210 authentic pieces from all regions of the Ivory Coast. The museum’s collection is made up of various categories of objects. These objects retrace the history of the intermingling of Ivorian cultures and populations.
