From the Safari in the Comoé National Park to the Seaside in Grand Bassam

9 days and 8 nights to the discovery of Abidjan, Yamoussoukro, the Comoé National Park, Korhogo, Bouake and Grand Bassam

This circuit will lead us to the discovery of the cultural depths, the flora and fauna and the beautiful Ivorian beaches.  We will start the tour with the discovery of the Ivorian economic capital “Abidjan“. We will explore the wonders of Banco National Park, which is located in the heart of Abidjan and which covers an area of nearly 3,000 ha. The Banco National Park was created in 1953 and is an example of primary forest with rare animal and plant species.

We will then go to the discovery of the political capital of the country “Yamoussoukro”. With an estimated population of 310,056 inhabitants and an area of 3,500 km², Yamoussoukro has been the political and administrative capital of Côte d’Ivoire since 1983. We will visit Our Lady of Peace Basilica, the largest Christian religious building in the world, built between 1986 and 1989 on the model of St. Peter Basilica in Rome. It was inaugurated by Pope John Paul II in 1989; we will visit the FHB Foundation (Félix Houphouet-Boigny Foundation for peace research), created in 1973 and was at the origin of the international conference for peace, organized by UNESCO. If time permits, we will visit the sacred crocodile lake of the presidential palace. The Crocodile Lake at the edge of the Presidential Palace shall be a must-see attraction in this tour. Here, we find crocodiles that weigh up to one tone and measure almost 6 meters in length.
 
We will then set off to discover the Comoé National Park, which is the largest National Park on the Ivory Coast. The Park was created in 1968 as a wildlife reserve (“Bouna Reserve”) and later became a national park. It covers an area of 1,150,000 hectares and is today one of the oldest and most important parks in Côte d’Ivoire. With 500 km of graded trails, the fauna is made up of Elephants, Buffalo, Cobe Buffon, Lions, Hippopotamus, Cynocephals, several varieties of birds and many other animal and plant species.
 
The Senufo country awaits us to discover a people who have successfully preserved their cultural heritage over time. We will visit the weavers of Waraniné, the blacksmiths and painters on fabrics of Fakaha who inspired Pablo Picasso in the realization of some of his works. Traditional dances will also be there.
 
The capital of the Baoulé countries awaits us for a magnificent stay. Bouaké has become an important platform for the Ivorian economy. Visit of the dyers of Dar Es Salam, it is a renowned textile center in Bouaké which brings together experts in the art of dyeing bazins and Indigo waistcloths. It attracts wholesalers who come from all over the country to source a variety of fabrics. Visit of the potters of Tano Sakassou who have been meeting in a cooperative since 1986 and who master the art of making utilitarian objects. Visit the wholesale market, it is a market that enjoys a sub-regional reputation and which constitutes a platform for the conservation and marketing of food and Agri-food products throughout the sub-region.
 
We will then discover the wonderful seaside town of Grand Bassam with its unmissable beaches. The Atlantic Ocean gives it a maritime facade with magnificent and exceptional beaches. They attract hundreds of visitors every weekend who are fans of water sports, fishing, swimming, relaxation, sunbathing, swimming, beach walks and picnics.

Day 1: Hexagon - Abidjan

Arrival and reception at Félix Houphouët-Boigny airport in Abidjan by our agents, transfer to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Abidjan – Yamoussoukro (250 km)

Breakfast and departure for the discovery of Abidjan, you will discover some popular districts like Adjamé with its colorful market. We will discover the fauna and flora of the Banco forest with its multiple tropical species and the famous FANICOS washers, (these are men who wash clothes with worn tires on the shore in Abidjan). We will then head for Yamoussoukro. Once in Yamoussoukro, we will visit our Lady of Peace Basilica, the largest Christian religious building in the world, visit of the FHB Foundation (Félix Houphouët-Boigny Foundation for peace and research). If time permits, we will visit the sacred crocodile lake of the presidential palace.

Day 3, 4 & 5: Yamoussoukro - Comoé National Park (500 km)

Breakfast and early departure for Comoé National Park, arrival, park entry formalities, installation at the Safari lodge, dinner and overnight stay. It covers an area of 1,150,000 hectares and is today one of the oldest and most important parks in Côte d’Ivoire. With 500 km of graded trails, the fauna is made up of Elephants, Buffalo, Cobe Buffon, Lions, Hippopotamus, Cynocephals, several varieties of birds and many other animal and plant species. Various activities in the National Park and visit of 

some surrounding villages populated mainly by Lobi populations, immersion in their way of life and discovery of their culture and traditions. Departure at the end of the afternoon for Korhogo in the Senoufo country (about 200 km). Arrival, installation at the hotel and overnight.

Day 6: Comoé National Park – Korhogo

After breakfast, our day will be devoted to the discovery of the Senufo country. A people who have successfully preserved their cultural heritage over time. We will visit the weavers of Waraniné, the blacksmiths and painters on fabrics of Fakaha who inspired Pablo Picasso in the realization of some of his works. Traditional dances will also be there. Evening presentation of the panther dance, which is a traditional dance performed by the Senufo peoples. Return in the evening to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Korhogo- Bouake (225 km)

Breakfast and early morning departure for the city of Bouaké, arrival check-in at the hotel and visit the capital of the Baoulé country. Visit of the dyers of Dar Es Salaam, Dar Es Salaam is a renowned textile center in Bouaké which brings together experts in the art of dyeing bazins and Indigo waistcloths, visit of the potters of Tano Sakassou who have been meeting in a cooperative since 1986 and who have mastered the art of making utilitarian objects; visit the wholesale market, It is a market that enjoys great regional notoriety. Return to the hotel, free evening, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Bouake- Grand Bassam

After breakfast, departure in the morning for Grand Bassam via Abidjan. Arrival, check-in at the hotel and explore the wonderful colonial city. A historic town located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean and former capital of Côte d’Ivoire, Grand-Bassam has an exceptional colonial heritage and the Atlantic Ocean gives it an extraordinary maritime facade with magnificent beaches that will take your breath away. Grand Bassam is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its beaches are unmissable and attract every weekend hundreds of visitors. Its national costume museum and its many craft centers will also be there. Return in the evening to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Grand Bassam – Abidjan - Hexagon

Breakfast and city tour of Grand Bassam. Visit of the National Costume Museum. Established in 1981, the National Costume Museum is responsible for the preservation of national collections of costumes, organization, development and all research related to Ivory Coast dress. This museum houses an important collection of traditional costumes of all the regions of Ivory Coast. The collection consists of costumes, various ornaments, models of traditional habitats, dancing masks and full-size masks, ethnological and colonial photographs, publications and other written documents. It has about 786 pieces and models of traditional habitats. Visit of a craft center and 

city tour. Lunch in a restaurant on the square. Evening transfer to Abidjan airport. END OF THE TOUR.
